introduction

Hello Readers of Ground Control Magazine,

I would like to introduce myself as Amanda Faculty, a new columnist for Ground Control. I am a San Francisco chick born and raised in the hype of Kurt and Courtney. My dad raised me on Oingo Boingo and camping trips, Led Zeppelin and late nights. Decades later, I go to many alternative rock shows including the genres of shoe gaze, punk, and surf rock. Of course, my folk heart attends Hardly Strictly Bluegrass every year. There is a little dancer in me as well, so don’t be surprised if you see reviews from dream pop shows with an electronic twist (Grimes, for instance, puts on a killer show), hell even drum-and-bass catches my fancy (the whole West Coast Bass movement has me sucked in). Experimental music keeps me on my toes, each show is different and unexpected. Let’s not forget my love for hip-hop. The Bay Area offers a slew of small hip hop shows and rap battles on the corners out front. My taste is eclectic, which gets me into the coolest shows with the most off-the-wall experiences that I am happy to share with you!

As a young woman living in San Francisco, I am excited for this new frontier of concert and album reviews. It should be the Killa Beez kneez for me and you, faithful readers.

Love,

Amanda Faculty
