What Is Happening To Attack In Black?

There are moments when one must question a sudden surge in productivity from a band, and one of those moments is now. Over the last two years, Welland, Ontario-based, chameleonic rockers Attack In Black released two full length albums and wow-ed critics with their adept musicianship and ability to shift both gears and styles on a dime. The band covered a staggering amount of ground between Years and the Fake Love Songs cassette as well as a split release with Baby Eagle, but really floored audiences when the band began to alter and augment their sound for the stage; old songs sounded brand new again, and no two shows ever seemed to go exactly the same way; it was actually a really thrilling event to go to an Attack In Black concert and not know what expect on any given night, other than that it was going to be different and good no matter what. In addition to full-band releases and obligations, singer Daniel Romano put out two solo albums (Workin' For The Music Man and Sleep Beneath The Willow) and teamed up with Fred Squier and Julie Doiron to record the gloriously low-fi, single-mic-recorded album, Daniel, Fred & Julie, while guitarist Spencer Burton stepped out and recorded his solo debut under the Gray Kingdom moniker. With each successive release, both musicians further expanded and developed their respective musical palettes, but it wasn't until AIB bassist Ian Kehoe announced the release of his solo venture, Marine Dreams, that anyone paused to question what was going on.

In the press release which was shipped to critics with copies of Marine Dreams, the following phrases appeared and gave sudden pause for concern at the status of Attack In Black: "former Attack In Black bassist, songwriter and lyrical contributor Ian Kehoe," "with gracious contributions by all former Attack In Black members" and "former AIB band-mates Daniel Romano, Ian Romano and Spencer Burton."

These statements are the first to imply that Attack In Black is no more – is this true? If so, what happened?

With no other word on the band's current status (the most informative thing recently posted on AIB's blogspot is a recipe for pecan pie), fans are left with no choice but to be shocked and remain in an agonizing state of limbo as they wait for further information to become available. Make no mistake though, we at Ground Control will be watching very closely for any new developments and, as soon as we know, we'll let our readers know.
