Thurston Moore Announces Solo Disc and Tour

Saturday, 18 August 2007

The tall, gangly, and always amazing, Thurston Moore will be releasing his first solo album in over 12 years.  Trees Outside the Academy, out September 18th via Ecstatic Peace!, finds Thurston breaking from 1995's noise rock escapades on Psychic Hearts with a more acoustic and lyric driven approach.  Recorded by John Agnello at J. Mascis' Bisquiteen Studios, Thurston's vocals, acoustic guitar and bass, are supported by a slew of guests.   Steve Shelley is featured on drums and Samara Lubelski on strings, along with appearances by J. Mascis, Christina Carter of Charalambides, Andrew "Gown" Macgregor, Sunburned Hand of The Man's John Moloney, and underground genius Leslie Keffer.

In support of Trees Outside the Academy, Thurston will be playing select dates across the US starting September 24th at Hoboken's Maxwell's.  Also, he’ll be playing a date at Princeton, NJ that is free for Princeton students with valid IDs…so for all the hyper-literate, 2400 SATers out there that are Youth/Thurston fans, you’re in for a treat.  Along for the ride is fellow Sonic Youth-er Steve Shelley on drums, MV & EE with the Golden Road violinist Samara Lubelski, guitarist Christopher Brokaw, and bassist Matt Heyner.
