Austin-based metal band The Sword announced today that they have completed work on their long-awaited follow-up to Age of Winters, titled Gods of the Earth. It’s set for an April 1, 2008 release via diverse NYC label Kemado Records.

Recorded at Folkvang Studios in Austin, Gods of the Earth needed to be a huge step up from what one would hope not to be a sophomore slump. They toured and toured for the past few years, generating tons of momentum and a huge fanbase. Finally getting into the studio, their new album set out to be more of an original piece of work than their debut which paid tribute to many of the doom metal Gods before them (High on Fire, Sleep, Black Sabbath).

And if there was any indication from the last show they played in Los Angeles, which was filled with brand new tracks, the band has definitely taken their fantastical music filled with tales rise with myth and mythology straight into the pits of hell.

The final track listing for Gods of the Earth is as follows:

1.) The Sundering
2.) How Heavy This Axe
3.) Lords
4.) Fire Lances of the Ancient Hyperzephyrians
5.) To Take the Black
6.) Maiden, Mother & Crone
7.) Under the Boughs
8.) The Black River
9.) The White Sea
