The New York City trio, Secret Machines, have recently headed into the studio to record their third full-length album to be released on Reprise Records in 2008. The band is said to be continuing with their indie-rock meets art-rock sound, with legendary producer/engineer Brandon Mason (David Bowie and VHS or BETA) returning to helm the mixing board.

Secret Machines has slightly changed shape since we last heard from them on Ten Silver Drops back in 2006. After the amicable exit of founder, brother, and guitarist, Benjamin Curtis, (who is continuing to create music with his longtime girlfriend for the band School of Seven Bells) new guitarist, and longtime friend, Phil Karnats has joined the band taking over guitar duty. In addition to their new guitarist, the album will also feature guest appearances from such folks as Tony Visconti, David Bowie's long-time producer who has been quoted saying that the Secret Machines are his favorite NYC band.

One of the upcoming album's highlights is sure to be "Now You're Gone," which fans first heard when the band played it during their residency at NYC club Annex in September. And yup, you guessed it, if you head over to YouTube you can get an amateur taste of what to expect from one of the most inventive sounds out of NYC in recent memory.
