I have to say, I'm not a fan of the phenomenon known as "guy from band XXX is DJing at a club—pay money and come!" (Not officially known as that, but let's call it that for now). Wow, you mean the guy from Interpol is playing records at a club? Who really cares? That said, if the guys from The Bees were DJing somewhere near me, I would go down there in an Irish minute. These guys seem to know...

Along with The National, Midlake is one of those bands that music lovers dream about. Not dream about in the way that you'd have a poster of Tim Smith with his shirt off, a la David Cassidy circa 1978. But more in the way that there is so much terrible music and all the bands that actually mean something are either dead or over the hill. So when our generation gets something that we can hopefully talk about in 2042,...

The Walkmen announced via Myspace bulletin that they have a free download available on their site. As it turns out, they are just finishing up a few dates, the last being 6/28 in Calgary, but still found some time to do some good ol' basement recordings. As the band stated, "We also have a new song that we just recorded in Paul's basement and really liked. Since it isn't exactly in line with the other stuff we are doing now,...

I thought of the free land I'd left far behind; Through rain, snow, and hail, boys, froze up to the gills, They called me the orphan of the dreary Black Hills. – not sure Luckily for us, this isn’t the mid-1800s! Every once in a while I’ll check out label sites and see what new stuff they have going on and I’ll feel like I discovered gold, texas tea,...

Our fifth installment of Lunarcast features a Southern California band called Hell At Night. The band’s original concept was as a duo, consisting of twin brothers Nart and Dan Chejoka (drums and guitar/vocals, respectively). However, earlier this year, a third member was added to the band, former Lidsville frontman Greg Johnson, who now provides the much-needed bass and sings lead and backup vocals. It was this lineup that entered the studio for a second round to finalize their debut EP...

There’s a very fine line between what’s cute and what’s overly cute. Australia’s own Architecture in Helsinki don’t tip toe in between both mediums, but place themselves as an entire entity all unto itself. They’re MEGA cute. They jump up and down fully exuberant. They wear rather colorful clothes—case in point, the safari inspired orange and yellow zebra striped shirt worn by leader Cameron Bird. And for Pete’s sake, they even have a member that has those fun typed-up dreadlocks!...
