There haven’t been many times in human history that new ideas haven’t been met with resistance. Any philosophy student in any university in the world can (and will) tell you that Socrates was asked to drink hemlock by the governing bodies of the day because he had corrupted the young. A few centuries later, a bunch of mildly longhaired free thinkers took Bo Diddley’s heartbeat rhythm, built the groundwork for rock ‘n’ roll on top of it and were the...

The atmospheric-with-an-edge sound of M83 will soon be available to those wanting to it hear it live, as they have announced a rather extensive North American tour this spring to coincide with the release of the new album, Saturdays=Youth, out April 15. The tour will kick off in LA, and include stops in SF, Portland, and of course the cliched stop in Montreal. The tour will conclude on June 7th at the Black Cat in Washington D.C. For those fans...

For sixteen years now, Noise Pop has taken over San Francisco for a handful of days to play host to some of the best underground and not-quite-underground music, art and film out there. Past performers are a who's-who of indie rock gods and goddesses, and this year's event—which kicks off next Tuesday—is no exception. The Magnetic Fields, The Mountain Goats, Quasi, hell, even screenings of Wesley Willis's Joy Rides. Unlike most festivals, you've got a number of attendance options—either on...

Britt Daniel, Jim Eno and the rest of the boys from Spoon could be sitting back on their laurels right now. After all, they've had a run of damn good albums, culminating in last year's Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (although I personally feel that anything after "The Beast and Dragon, Adored" has to be a step back, just because of the sheer awesomeness of that song). But apparently laurel-sitting isn't on the menu just yet, since the band is...
