Some albums come along which make me want to give up on hip hop. Part of that has to do with personel and practices in the business; for example, there are many artists who are great to be featured on a track but should never put out their own albums. Who’s at the top of the list for me in this category? Fucking Rick Ross. While his appearance on one song or another has been nice, I can’t name a single album album which is his alone where I can handle listening to the whole thing all the way through. Now this fucking idiot has a bunch of other idiots with him and had the audacity to put out an album called MMG Presents: Self Made Vol. 2. What the fuck? Volume 2? I guess that first one just flew by me like the ugly duckling it probably was. Just to give you an idea of who MMG is,  the group is made up of Rick Ross, Wale, Meek Mill, Stalley and Omarion. I’m only disappointed in Omarion. He’s worth more than anything this album presents.

This terrible album starts out with a terrible intro with some terribly accented women talking about Maybach Music. They don’t even sound sexy! I can’t name one other hip hop track/album that has an ugly sounding girl, but this one does. Gross. Of course they talk about their haters and how we should, “tell 'em to fuck 'em.’” Well I’m listening to your track and I can’t tell that to myself. You called the track “Power Circle,” but all I want to do is hit the breaker switch on it.

“Black Magic.” Rick says “Poof” and “David Copperfield” six times in the first thirty seconds of this track. I really don’t know what to say about this track. I’m just disappointed in society for recommending that a man who was a Correctional Officer at some point in his lifetime get on the mic. Lots of talk, not a lot of real.

“This Thing Of Ours (feat. Rick Ross & Nas)” is the only good track on the album. The beat, the hook (Omarion) and Nas are all awesome. The rest of this track is terrible. I swear that once a person becomes a 1%er from work in the hip hop game, they can just put out whatever they want. I will never agree with this and hold them at a higher expectation. You have access to so much more than the rest of the word, and your work needs to show this. This track is the only one I’d keep around, which is typical of any album that Rick Ross touches.

“Actin’ Up (feat. French Montana)” is about girls who act incorrectly according to Rick & French and how other men let them act that way. The sentence reads more complex than it actually is. Here’s the hook to help you understand the track. These lines are about 50% of the track, so it’s all you really need to know: “These hoes be acting up (x3), And these niggas be lettin 'em.” Wow. Your lyrics have become quite invigorating. This is the work of how many people? I really want to know. If it’s more than 1 mentally disabled person, we really need to worry about hip-hop.

There is seriously a track called, “Bag Of Money” on this album. You know what the best part of the track is? It has T-Pain repeating every other word and sentence auto-tuned. You can’t make this up. It’s almost comical to the point of it needing to be on a SNL Digital Short.

I honestly thought we were done with the whole paint-everything-black thing, but apparently with  “Black On Black (feat. Ace Hood & Bun B)” we’re still stuck on a crappy color that doesn’t really mean anything. I’d actually prefer to have a hip hop artist talk about how he rocks a lime-green car because he’s not afraid to be seen no matter where he or she goes. But no, the whole MMG group is still stuck on Black. Well good for you guys; shopping must be super easy. Plus I don’t know if Rick Ross would look good in a Tommy Bahamas shirt.

Here lies a big problem: this track hit #4 in the US Billboard 200 and I have no idea what to do with that. I have forced myself to listen to this album at least twenty times since I received it, and I honestly have to refrain myself from hitting the fast-forward button on this album, and all of the tracks. The first time I listened to it, I hit fast forward on the entire album in hopes to find something firing at least a 7/10 and found nothing. Reluctantly going back I forced myself to listen to it on the way to work, at the gym, on the way to the club, at work and just relaxing at home. It was torturous on a water-boarding level. If I hear “Maybach Music” one more time I’m going to shoot someone. I’d tell you not to buy the album, but apparently you already did, and I hate you for it. Now he might make a third one and I’ll be here again being tortured by the fantastical MMG group.
