The title of this article may seem like old news, LCD Sounsystem’s 45:33 has been out nearly for six months on iTunes; however, it will just now be released for the first time on CD and double-vinyl on November 13. What a great example of the current state of the music industry….

45:33 was originally recorded by James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) as a continuous, album-length disco symphony.  Basically it’s one really long song commissioned by Nike for their Nike + Original Run series, it proved a massive success, both commercially and critically.

Anyways, included on the CD will be two bonus tracks that have previously only been available in the UK.  In the spirit of 45:33, the bonus track “Freak Out / Starry Eyes” is an epic twelve-and-a-half minutes of like-minded dance floor euphoria. The song begins with soulful disco-funk, and then morphs into a robotic groove that effortlessly manages the trick of sounding both old and new at the same time.

After an extremely successful run with his latest release, Sound of Silver, mixing a number of stellar albums and singles (“Prinzhorn Dance School”, “Holy Ghost!”), as well as continuing to help run the thriving DFA Records, this past year proved to be a creative zenith.  With the upcoming release of 45:33, James Murphy has established himself as a premiere dynamic force in the changing tide of the music industry.
