As practically the whole world now knows, the new Radiohead album, In Rainbows, is going to be released via online download services on October 10th. This isn’t out of the ordinary. The trend as of late has been for labels to release new albums earlier and earlier on downloads services, and than sometime later have subsequent in-store releases…
What does make this situation unique is that somehow, by some stroke of luck or genius, it’s ten days before perhaps one of the most anticipated releases of the year and yet, we have no leaks, no call out hooks, no nothing. I recently received the following press release to further cement the fact that it seems like no one is getting a hold of this little gold basket before the tenth:
There will be no advances, promotional copies, digital streams, media sites, etc. of Radiohead's In Rainbows. Everyone in the world will be getting the music at the same time: Oct. 10. That includes us.
So all of you Radiohead fans can search the online seas of hypemachines, limewires, and bit torrents; but for better or worse, it looks like this is going to be as close as we’ve come to an official and respected release date in a long, long time…
