Harrow County, Vol. 1: Countless Haints
by Cullen Bunn & Tyler Crook
I knew from reading Cullen Bunn’s book The Sixth Gun that the man knows how to put a story together. Harrow County is no different. And just like the Sixth Gun, this book knows how to play to the horror crowd and take it up a couple notches.
Harrow County is full of things a horror fanatic is looking for. Old-timey backwoods setting? Check. Ghosts? Check. Witches? Check. Possessed children? Check. A harrowing secret? Check. A mysterious tree? Check. A wise old token black person who knows more than everyone else? Check. Seriously, it’s all there, and you can even add a talking skin as a sidekick.
But Bunn is not just interested in delivering the goods, because Harrow County is just chock full extras like Bunn’s scary childhood recollections, and an additional illustrated story involving some sort of creepy occurrence in Harrow County’s history. Tons of writing is going into each book.
But let’s focus on the art as Tyler Crook’s art is seriously some of the best I’ve ever seen, detailed and beautifully painted.
I’m not going to cliché you into “picking up this book… if you dare!” If you like spooky horror stories, you should be reading Harrow County. Nuff said.
Get it here.
