Having just experienced Mastodon live last night at the Wiltern in L.A., this news is quite welcome to my everlastingly ringing ears. According to a MySpace bulletin witnessed by Press McGee himself, it looks like Stoner-rockers High On Fire have confirmed that they will be entering the studio this month to record the follow-up to their critically acclaimed Blessed Black Wings (Relapse). The new album will be called Death is This Communion. Enlisting the chops of legendary producer Jack Endino (Nirvana, Mudhoney, Zeke), High On Fire will spend the recording session at AvastII (the studio formerly known as Inwood Studio) prior to wrapping up at Soundhouse Studio for the album's mixing, with an expected early fall release. Before submerging themselves in the studio, High On Fire have confirmed a few performances in the Pacific Northwest.
This will be the first HIGH ON FIRE album to feature new bassist Jeff Matz (ZEKE). The band has been debuting new material as part of their recent regional dates and has announced a handful of Northwest shows leading up to recording.
