With South African Hip-Hop trio Die Antwoord leading the way, the annual Sonor Tour rolled into the Fox Theater in Oakland and provided enough more than enough music for the ears of the nearly sold-out crowd.

After DJ sets by Seth Troxler, Nic Fanciulli, and Paul Kalkbrenner pumped the kids up for the headliners, DJ Hi – Tek of Die Antwoord strolled out onto the stage and over to his turntables. And after throwing down the beats for his signature “DJ Hi-Tek Rulez,” he was joined by Yo-Landi Vi$$er and her partner Ninja, who hit the stage in matching blaze orange safety suits and immediately launched into "Fok Julle Naaiers" off of their most recent record, Ten$ion. The crowd went nuts, and within thirty seconds everyone in the venue had their arms in the air and were chanting along.

There is no denying the energy that exists between Die Antwoord and their fans, and even if they may not know all the lyrics, the crowd was definitely caught up in every step Ninja and Yo-Landi made. “I Fink U Freeky,” “Baby's on Fire,” and their latest single, “Fatty Boom Boom,” were all highlights, but it was the energy and stage presence of the band that won me over.
