Devo brought their Something For Everybody tour back to San Francisco for the second time in less than a year on January 14 and, judging from the capacity crowd who were dancing and spilling their drinks for the entire set, the band did indeed bring something for everybody.
Opening with "Don't Shoot (I'm a Man)" from their latest release, Devo took control of the stage from the word go. Their non-stop wardrobe changes and constant switching of instruments didn't distract fans from a set list that was heavy on the hits including "Beautiful World," "Whip It," "Mongoloid," "Peek-A-Boo" and "Gates of Steel," and although these songs are more than twenty-five years old, the band's seventy-five minute set did not seem dated in the slightest; in fact, the social commentary that has long been embedded in the band's lyrics seemed just as relevant (if not more so) now than it was when they were written.
Even in 2012, Devo has managed to remain slightly ahead of their time band and, at the rate they are going, they always will be.
