Anthrax – [Photos]

Wednesday, 02 November 2011

At this point, Anthrax has been bringing the noise for thirty years now and, because the band has never really stopped, one would think they might begin to slow down. Running hard can take its toll over time – voices get raspy and hands may grow sore – but guitarists Scott Ian and Rob Caggiano, drummer Charlie Benante, bassist Frank Bello and singer Joey Belladonna have found a new way to stay tight and rock hard every night: by touring regularly with some of the biggest monsters in rock. Currently on the road with Death Angel and Testament supporting their newest album, Worship Music, Anthrax has been cutting a jagged swath across North America and, when the tour stopped at the Warfield Theater in San Francisco on October 23, 2011, Ground Control editor-at-large was there to commit the proceedings to film.

…And was it ever a night to catch. Ian and Caggiano raced regularly across the stage with their fingers flying up fretboards, while Belladonna belted some of the band's biggest hits as well as songs from Worship Music and the rock solid rhythm section kept the whole thing pinned down tightly. It was a phenomenal performance to see – as Ahner's photos illustrate.
