I am like powder
I am like relaxation
I am the snow
I dig in this ocean
And I try to fill it with gold

OK, so who hasn’t heard of Matador Records? It’s pretty much the label that virtually every indie band wants to get signed by. After a gig a few whiskey’s you’ll hear shit like, “Awww man, dude, that would be so sweet if we got signed by Matador.” It’s not a bad dream, but it’s not necessarily the most attainable goal.

Until then—as if you don’t already have their entire catalog—they are really good about letting fans grab some mp3s from their site. Now you can make a dope Matador mix tape with bands like Belle and Sebastian, The Ponys, Love of Diagrams and even some metal from Early Man. It’s a shame that Matador isn’t releasing that Cat Power cover of Cat Stevens' "How Can I Tell You" from that diamond commercial…not yet at least!

Anyway, dig in!

Cat Power – “The Greatest” – [mp3]

Early Man – “Death Is the Answer” – [mp3]

Matmos – ““The Struggle Against Unreality Begins” – [mp3]

The New Pornographers – “My Rights Versus Yours” – [mp3]

Shearwater – “Red Sea, Black Sea” – [mp3]

Chavez – “The Guard Attacks / Unreal Is Here” – [mp3]

Love of Diagrams – “Pace Or the Patience” – [mp3]
