It’s an indescribable feeling when an album just hits you, but it’s even better when it’s an album you’ve been looking forward to all year. It really does feel special when you put on that first song and you just know you’re going to be at a familiar place, like being home with old friends. That’s what it feels like when I listen to Radioactivity’s new album, Silent Kill, and when your friends come to town, you go see them, right?

Yes, Radioactivity has got an incredible pedigree being made up of members of both the Marked Men and Bad Sports: two bands who are each impressive in their own regard. However, it never ceases to amaze me how Jeff Burke (the mastermind of Radioactivity) can come back time and again with songs which follow an obvious formula but are packed with such power and energy that you feel as though you were caught unaware when they hit you. Maybe it’s just that Burke found the perfect riffs to charge the songs.

What’s more, seeing Radioactivity in my first-ever sold-out show at O’Brien’s in Allston, MA felt a little like everyone was there to see a magic show because from the first note of the set on “Battered” to the last strum of the night on “Pretty Girl” (not to mention some more of my favorites like “Sickness” and “World of Pleasure”), Radioactivity had a tremendous grasp on the room. I was so absorbed in their sound that I was only able to break my concentration from the action onstage first to admit to myself  how much I wished I could be in this band and later to realize how these guys might not just have put out the best album this year, but also put on the best show I’ve seen all year. Radioactivity should be in everyone’s life. Their new album is a scorcher, and they are simply on fire live.
