League of Extraordinary Gentlemen: Nemo Trilogy Hardcover Slipcase
by Alan Moore & Kevin O’Neill

Who would have ever thought that Alan Moore would have a consistent series he would be putting out for fifteen years, and who would have thought that it would be about the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen? More or less, at least.

The Nemo trilogy is a spin-off of sorts, but just as smart and witty as we would expect from Moore. Centered around Janni, who is the daughter of the original Dakkar (Nemo) from the series and her escapedes as she tries to follow her father’s footsteps as a pirate and adventurer, and being on the run from bounty hunters, all the while struggling to prove herself as a woman and facing the curse of being a Dakkar. What does that entail for the people who surround her? Regardless, Dakkar finds herself on a goose chase trying to find her daughter and even runs into an old friend or two.

Remarkably illustrated by Kevin O’Neill in a his trademark thin pens and minimalistic style, the world of the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen is brought to life as we are presented with lush and colorful alien landscapes and architecture. The Nemo series looks gorgeous (full of those giant splash pages O’Neill excels at along with a more cinematic approach to his art by focusing on a letterbox format for illustrating some parts of his book), is smartly written and is over a little sooner than we hoped for.

Top Shelf has done us a favor and put out a seriously stunning collection of the Nemo stories: a beautifully illustrated hardbound slipcase housing all three oversized books. It feels like the epic presentation to an epic story. We tip our hats to you, Top Shelf.
Alan Moore says he’s retired from comics, and the Nemo series is just another example of why he will be missed. His books are dense, strange and make a profound impact. They tell a story unlike anything else out there.
