Some will be surprised (that it's only happening now) and some will say it's about time, but Rush will finally be inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall Of Fame on April 18, 2013 at the Nokia Center in Los Angeles, CA. Other inductees will include Public Enemy, Heart, Randy Newman, Albert King, Quincy Jones, Lou Adler and Donna Summer. "It's a terrific honor and we'll show up smiling… It made my mom happy, so that's worth it," said singer/bassist Geddy Lee of the announcement to Rolling Stone. "It was a cause [Rush fans] championed. I'm very relieved for them and we share this honor with them, for sure."
The fans are right, of course. Rush has been rocking the hell out of fans since releasing their debut album in 1974. Since then the band has gone on to reset the standards for musicianship in rock n' roll with each successive release and Clockwork Angels [the band's nineteenth album –ed] continues that trend, reaching Number Two on the Billboard 200 chart, as well as Number One in Canada and Number Four in the United States. The success of the album has also yielded a novel – a collaboration between the band and author Kevin J. Anderson which paints a lavish and colorful world of steampunk and alchemy with lost cities, pirates, anarchists, exotic carnivals, and a rigid Watchmaker who imposes precision on every aspect of daily life. In an official statement, the band looked on the accolade of being inducted warmly and affably. "We are honored to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. The three of us are especially appreciative of our loyal fans whose support and dedication has gone a long way to making this possible. P.S. And special thanks to our moms for voting 6000 times!"
