Although the band has released more than their fair share of groundbreaking albums, it has always been the live show of The Cult that has elevated them to legendary status. No matter how many genres they crossed, or how many times Ian Astbury and Billy Duffy have reached down into themselves and pulled out their own hand-stamped brand of music, whether it be the unmistakable flanged-out guitar intro to "She Sells Sanctuary" or the crunch guitar riff of "Rise," there was always a tour to go along with the new album that would seem to take the band to that next level. And just when you thought that Ian, Billy and company would hang up their respective tambourines and guitars, The Cult is back to give their long-time fans something special.
Kicking of a 16 city US tour on August 19th at The House Of Blues in San Diego, The Cult will be recreating the entire Love album, cover to cover. Now I know you may be thinking, "Ive heard 'She Sells Sanctuary' and 'Rain' live before, so what's the big deal?" The big deal is that on this tour you will also be hearing some of the overshadowed tracks on what is, in this humble writer's opinion, The Cult's best album. Songs like "Hollow Man," "Brother Wolf Sister Moon" and "Phoenix" will all be heard on the "Love Live" Tour, and if you are unfamiliar with them this is the perfect chance for you to hear what you have missed all these years.
So whether you're an older fan of The Cult who is looking to wax nostalgic over your days swirling away to "Revolution" at the Goth Clubs, or a younger fan who has never heard "Nirvana" in all its spectacular live glory, I cannot urge you enough to go out and pick up tickets for this tour when it hits your city, and witness music history being recreated.
