Let’s commence the start of music video reviews with one fantastic song. I’d have to say, the first few times I heard this song, I truly did not get it. What in the shit does "DVNO" stand for?
Well, someone out there knows, as the song was featured in the mediocre new movie Hitman. At least people in the music industry know good music when they hear it, because they obviously don’t know good acting when they see it.
Justice has been around for a few years, but their latest album † has given them amazing awareness and growth over the past few months. DVNO is a single that slightly trails behind their club hit "D.A.N.C.E."
I was out and viewing various Ed Banger videos (More to come from this crew). When I came to this video I instantly fell in love with it. I feel like wearing a head band, high socks, short shorts and dancing with a tennis racket in my hand. I was born in the 80s but damn it, I feel like I’m living it every time I watch the video. The color and feel reminds me of the cinematography from the new version of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy. The colors and short stints constantly flowing through the video are so short it even keeps my new-age ADHD mind in check. The artwork, following the words of the song helps all those who have trouble with hearing what they are saying. And if you don’t know what they say after “ugly boys and girls,” it’s “I’ll put you on my list and make you clap to this.” After that, Justice says something about "mayhem." You’re damn straight mayhem in my head, son.
Honestly, this video stands out from all the crap we see on MTV. I can’t watch hip-hop videos because I can almost guarantee what’s going to happen is they’re trying to be “sexy” or “thug.” If you see me in a bar and hip-hop is playing on the screen, please barf on me so I can be excused from the room. Thanks.
As for the explanation for the name DVNO, Band member Xavier de Rosnay (according to Wiki) has been quoted saying, “In every suburb of the world, in every city, there’s always a nightclub called El Divino… Clubs where you have to wear like a white shirt to get in.” That’s funny, I always thought you had to be printed in gold to get in. That’s it for now; I hope the details made you sweat even more.
All in all, I give DVNO a perfect 4/4.
Here’s how we score videos on Q-V:
Is the video 99% stuff other then a headshot of music artist? Yes.
Is the cinematography pure awesomeness? Yes.
Is the video easy to follow / do you know what’s going on? Yes.
Does the theme stay consistent throughout the video? Yes.
