Elliott Smith fans who have cursed the fact that they never got to be friends with him take note: the troubador is the subject of an upcoming book from Smith's friend, photographer Autumn de Wilde. Titled Elliott Smith, the book features interviews with some of Elliott's closest friends and collaborators, including Death Cab for Cutie’s Ben Gibbard and Chris Walla, Nada Surf’s Matthew Caws, Quasi’s Sam Coomes, producers Jon Brion and Rob Schanpf, Heatmiser’s Neal Gust, some speaking on record about him for the first time. In addition to photographing Elliott, de Wilde directed the video for "Son of Sam" and designed the cover and album art for Figure 8.
The book also comes with a collection of five live songs from Smith's solo acoustic shows at Largo in L.A. in 1997:
Between the Bars
Angeles
Clementine
Clouds (original by Quasi)
All My Rowdy Friends Have Settled Down (original by Hank Williams Jr.)
Elliott Smith will be released by Chronicle Books in November.
