Psych-rock trio Dead Meadow brought their winter tour to the Troubadour, on a rainy Saturday night in Los Angeles, with Spindrift and Tsk Tsk for an amazing performance that would keep the near capacity crowd transfixed until the very end.
Having just finished a number of dates supporting Wolfmother, with Silversun Pickups, Jason Simon (vocals, guitar) and crew glided through the set in a most unassuming manner allowing the music to transport the audience into their realm with ease. With hypnotic guitar and understated vocals guiding the way, Steve Kile (bass) and Stephen McCarty (drums) cushioned the ride keeping everything right on pace. With much of the set comprised of material from the recent release Feathers, it was no surprise when they slid into “At Her Open Door” bringing a wide smile to my face.
Having experienced their live show twice now, I’m looking forward to their upcoming New Years Eve performance. I’d expect more of the same by way of the caliber of showmanship Dead Meadow brings to the stage. When you get the chance to see for yourself, be ready for the trip, you won’t regret it.
Show openers Tsk Tsk and Spindrift set the night up quite nicely making this one of the best-billed shows I’ve seen in a while. Look for more from these two as well.
